Oscar the Blue Rabbit Fleece Toy with a Real Mission Cuddly Rabbit Mascot/Toy Teaching Aid Toy Unusual Toy Rabbit Teachers' Helpful Prop

Oscar Blue Rabbit is a Special Rabbit - the result of an approach from Oxford, UK-based Charity, Oxford Against Cutting. The Charity asked if I could help them by creating a specific Cuddly Toy, and thanks to one of my Etsy Friends, OSCAR BLUE RABBIT, is the resulting Mascot Toy, who was officially unveiled on 6th February, 2018. The Charity holds the copyright for Oscar Blue Rabbit's design and use, and COLDHAMCUDDLIES is currently the only source of this Mascot Toy. Requests can come directly to our Shop in the usual manner via the Etsy Check Out, or from Oxford Against Cutting - details are given later in this listing.

Oscar's Vital Statistics are:

Height: 24.75 inches (63.0 cms)Tip of Ears to His Feet
Girth: 12 inches (31.00 cms) Around his Hips
Weight: 7.0 ounces (approx: 240 g).

Oscar Blue Rabbit is a leading character in a specially produced film which was publicly launched on 6th February, 2018 dealing with the difficult subject of FGM (Female Genital Mutilation).

This involves the cutting of the female genitalia for cultural reasons and has no health benefit whatsoever. It can be extremely harmful, with many girls bleeding to death. FGM survivors are often left with life-long physical and emotional trauma. In an attempt to counter this severe form of abuse, Oxford Against Cutting has created a toolkit for primary school teachers to talk to young children about bodily integrity. The toolkit includes a lesson plan and film (Who Can You Tell?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuGY_bNfUmQ and Oscar the rabbit, who is one of the stars of the film). The toolkit launch was on 6th February 2018, INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ZERO TOLERANCE for FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION (FGM) - and we hope that Oscar Blue Rabbit will become a leading light in this sphere as a result.

Everyone who knows me, knows I am hopeless without a pattern, even though the Charity provided me with a photograph, I appealed for help from Etsy Team Members with whom I regularly liaise, and also to a former customer/collaborator - Sean Smith, Puppeteer Extraordinaire, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA. A copy of the original photograph was sent to Tulsa (isn't technology great - when it works)? Sean Smith's calculations are shown alongside it - in the second photograph for this listing. The pattern pieces were then transferred to two sheets of printing paper, posted back to me - with the instruction that they should all be increased by 200%. The instructions were followed - to the letter - and Oscar Blue Rabbit is the result, after several attempts on my part. Creating a fabric toy model based on a photograph of a plastic/plasticine animation model has it's challenges!

Oscar Blue Rabbit in his role as Mascot Toy for the Oxford Against Cutting latest project doesn't have the whiskers the original designer had in mind. They look splendid in a photograph: but I'm not keen on spiky appendages to Cuddly Toys as a rule, and in particular where Oscar is concerned. Whiskers, no matter how they are made, can't help but be spiky - and I think Oscar's chubby cheeks look great without them. Do hope Oscar's prospective Forever Friends will agree. They, of course, are at liberty to decorate THEIR Oscar Blue Rabbit in any way THEY choose, once he arrives home.

NB: Every Oscar Blue Rabbit who gets adopted will result in 20% of his purchase price (£5.00: circa $7.00 USD)) being donated to Oxford Against Cutting (registered charity number 1161597) to assist the Charity in their important, demanding, and relatively unpublicised work in stopping this abuse of human rights against girls and young women.

PLEASE BE AWARE; Orders received for any COLDHAMCUDDLIES products are handled in order of receipt, and Oscar's potential adopters will receive EXACTLY the same treatment.

LATEST NEWS:

Since February, the original Oscar Rabbit has now been joined by 8 other Blue Rabbit Fleece Toys (they too, now, are called Oscar Blue Rabbit!). One travelled to Tulsa - to become Best Friends with the grand daughter of Coldham Cuddlies' designer/friend who created Oscar from the photo mentioned earlier. (With his permission, the record of their meeting is included as part of this listing as well). 6 others are now "earning" their carrots - helping the staff of Oxford Against Cutting in their important educational work. The seventh Blue Rabbit became a prize for the young girl who starred in the Charity's film that forms part of the presentation to Schools on the subject of Female Genital Mutilation.
