Padre Bear Decorative Ornamental Toy In COLDHAMCUDDLIES Clerical Bear Collection Novelty Collectible MADE TO ORDER Fun Gift for Everyone Bear Fund Raiser

Meet Padre Bear - the first in a series of Dressed Clerical Bears made for the 2018 COLDHAMCUDDLIES Ornamental Decorative Toy Collection in support of the St. Barnabas R.C. Cathedral Building Maintenance Fund in Nottingham, England, UK. He's an unusual Christmas (or any other Anniversary) Present suggestion.

His Dimensions are:
Height: 14 inches (36 cms) - mid-Head to Feet
Girth: 11 inches (28.5cms) - mid-Body
Weight: 5-6 ounces (c. 150g)
Arms: 5 inches (13 cms) - these are both moveable.

All our Clerical Bears are targetted as Fund Raising Tools for the St. Barnabas Cathedral Maintenance Fund. However, COLDHAMCUDDLIES are also first and foremost suppliers of Ornamental Toys for anyone. We believe they should appeal to any church-goer, of any denomination, as well as the normal Toy Purchasing public who are looking for an unusual, dressed Toy - and is suitable as a gift for most Special Occasions, or just as a Fun Gift between family members and their friends.

The Clerical Bear project has been 2 years in planning - involved pattern selection, many helpful suggestions from family, friends and, even, COLDHAMCUDDLIES customers - from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Originally, I was challenged just to make A Father Bear as a potential fund-raising tool for St. Barnabas R.C. Cathedral - which is where my family gather almost every week.

Padre Bear has now become the first of a series of 6 Dressed Bears. He's called "Padre" because I feel it is a title recognised globally, whether you're a Catholic, Anglican, Free Church or Non-Believer in search of a Present with a Difference; and/or living in an English-speaking or other World country. COLDHAMCUDDLIES Toys can already be found worldwide - so I wanted this project to appeal to as "broad a church" as possible. Most people have met a Priest in their lives: many have been helped and/or befriended by one at some point in their lives. Lots have also been taught by Nuns and have special memories of them. They are the most likely to want to buy one of these Teddy Bears. But, we think they have a broad appeal, and so far, the concept of a Clerical Bear has been well-received by everyone who has heard about it - including the present incumbents at St. Barnabas Cathedral itself (who have been incredibly encouraging and helpful). Fingers crossed, the "real deals" will be equally acceptable!!

Early in 2018, a long-term Building Maintenance Fund was announced at St. Barnabas Cathedral. This signalled that I needed to get sewing as the time had actually arrived for the Clerical Bear Project to start. Twenty percent (20%) of the £25.00 GBP price of EVERY Bear sold will be given to St Barnabas - with the rest coming to me to fund the creation of as many Clerical Teddy Bear Ornamental Toys as the demand requires.

Like the famous "Topsy", the project has grown. While Padre Bear was underway, someone suggested (in jest, maybe!) the creation of a Bishop/Episcopal Bear. Shortly afterwards, someone else said that there just HAD TO BE a Sister Bear. I then decided there ought also to be a Missionary Bear. When the first Missionary Bear (matching the other three) appeared on the scene, one of the current Cathedral incumbents (originally from India and pictured in this listing) suggested the scheme could be more "inclusive" were it to have a Bear made with darker Brown Fleece fabric - so there are now 2 Missionary Bear Versions from which to choose. Increasing the inclusevity of our Clerical Bear Collection also involved the Vicar/Rector Bear. He is made slightly differently (without separate garments) and is somewhat taller than the other Collection members, as a different pattern is used. If YOU would like a Lady Vicar/Rector Bear instead, please let me know using the route already suggested: I'll be glad to do one for YOU. (She would also be made with the same pattern used for Sister Bear).

All but the Missionary Bears have Heads, Paws and Bodies made with an unusual toffee colour fleece. The exceptions have Head, Paws and Body made with a dark Brown Fleece. (ALL the Bears can be made with Brown Fleece, if YOU so wish). They all have plastic eyes and noses, safely held in place with metal safety discs. All also have either Shoes or Boots (in the case of Sister Bear) made with Black Felt and stuffed separately. The footwear also has a cardboard base - to help them stand better. Their clothing is made with various poplin/linen/gaberdine fabrics. Each Clerical Bear's "cassock" has 10 buttons individually sewn on the fronts of their garments. Sister Bear's "habit", including her veil, is made with the same fabric used for Padre Bear. These Ornamental Toys evolve as each one is made, even though the same pattern is used for each. Their arms are move able, and to begin with, they should all stand upright without need for a prop. However, it is NORMAL for the stuffing to "relax" over time, so even with careful handling, they may eventually require to lean against something.

All the Novelty Collectible Decorative Toys are stuffed with polyester which complies with the following British and European Standards:

B.S.1425 for Cleanliness; B.S.5853 for Flammability: BS EN71-3 2013 - for soft toys being sold within the European Union.

The stuffing CAN be washed (up to 60 degrees). We don't advise this, however: due to the dyes involved in all the fabrics used to make our Clerical Bear Collection not necessarily being colour-fast.

Like all COLDHAM CUDDLIES Ornamental Toys, these Collectable Ornamental Decorative Bears are made in Animal- and Smoke-free environments. The original models will also be on show each week-end in the Cathedral Hall in The Repository - and YOU are invited for Coffee, to have a look at them - and place an order if you so wish. Payment via PayPal or Cash up front is requested - just as it is when you decide to order via our Etsy Shop. (Funds will only be paid to our local account once the finished Bear is delivered to you - if you order"in real time"). They each take between 3-5 days to make. If you have a deadline, and if Shipping (anywhere in the world - whether online or elsewhere) is required, please allow between 4-6 weeks from date of order. Our orders are processed in order of receipt, and to allow for existing Work in Progress in our Shop.
